Headlights

I needed to clean up a pair of 16v outer headlamps. As friend Barry suggested I carefully split the glass from the reflector and cleaned both inside and out.

The reflector was corroded so I cut several triangle sections of chrome finish adhesive vinyl and stuck these on to cover up the stains. This looked much better, so I carefully

NoNailed the glass back on and installed the headlights.

I am rebuilding a 16v to a good standard and I realised these patched up lights weren't good enough, so I ordered a new pair on Ebay, shipping from Italy.

These lights were lost in the post somewhere, so I didn't get them. I looked for another set and began to find out more about these replacements.

On closer inspection the lights coming from Italy were H1 units, this notifies

they are fitted with a single filament bulb, which means they are permanently

dipped or permanently high beam.

Other suppliers, like HV Auto in Europe, and Deltaworks in uk have the same brand new SIEM lights, but little is mentioned of them not having an adjustable beam height.

The inner lights will supply the high beam long range function. The lights do have an integrated side lamp bulb, I don't know what vehicle they're made for.

The Fiat 131 shown to the left has a four lamp profile, similar to a 16v but it has separate side lights, so these lights won't be for this car.

The lights shown here supplied by HVAuto, and Deltaworks, are typical of the units being sold as replacements for 16v outer headlights. These are H1 and aren't the same as the originals. You'll notice the plastic casing and

moulded in mounting points.

The lights do have an internal sidelight.

This led me to a chat with Cosmo at Tanc Barratt, who helpfully stocks the original

Carello light units, these are H4 items with mounting for a 2 filament bulb.

They are expensive, but they are correct original equipment for the 16v.

I ordered a pair of these lights, and they were well packed and quickly delivered.

The finish is good, with a central inner bulb shield, original clip mounting lugs,

with clips fitted, and a sidelamp bulb hole which the

16v bulb holder locks into perfectly

'The price is forgotten while the quality remains' is a maxim

us Integrale owners live by, although the quality isn't always

up to much. These lights were very expensive, but the result is

good, they fit well and look the biz. There is the correct

high and dipped beam with no wiring alterations, and the

internal column light switch will operate correctly.

This 16v Delta is a lovely rust free car, and it deserves

the best I can give it. Our Integrales are valuable, and should be preserved

with respect for their original features.

Integrale lighting is hopeless in the dark, our 16v has no lower fog lights

either, so hopefully these new lights will do a good job.
